High Fructose Corn Syrup
One of the chief contributors lays dormant in what we eat. High Fructose Corn Syrup , despite its name, has nothing to do with fruit; its addictively sweet taste and its capacity to sustain food for longer shelf lives have given manufacturers a reason to boost its levels within all forms of food content. However, fructose leads to excessive insulin resistance, which leads to many health complications including (but not limited to) diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and atherosclerosis. Though high fructose corn syrup leads to greater fiscal benefits- for example soft drink companies have cut their costs by about 20% by boosting fructose levels- the long term consequences can be devastating to one's health.
