Plantar warts are common skin infections that can occur on the sole , heel, or ball of the foot. Since plantar warts are usually located on sensitive areas, they grow inward and are often tender and painful.

 Causes

Plantar warts occur when HPV (human papilloma virus) enters the body through tiny cuts or breaks in the skin on the bottom of the feet. The virus is usually found on contaminated surfaces such as public locker rooms, showers, and swimming pools.

 Prevention & Treatment

It is important to wear appropriate footwear, i.e. sandals, in places where only barefoot is permitted. Wear waterproof sandals when taking showers in public places or walking on wet surfaces. Having that barrier between your feet and a contaminated floor will make a difference.

If you have Plantar warts, see your doctor to find what treatments are available.
